The Port of Chioggia is located in the Lagoon of Venice and is connected to the Adriatic Sea through its own port entrance. It currently consists of two docks: Saloni Island and Val da Rio.
The Saloni Island port located in the urban heart of Chioggia covers an area of about 100,000 sqm, with 1,350 m of wharves and is dedicated to passenger traffic.
The modern Val da Rio area, under expansion, is currently furnished with 300,000 sqm of loading areas, 2,000 m of wharves, 16,500 sqm of covered warehouses and 4,500 m of railway networks.
The Port of Chioggia is able to carry out two functions: through internal navigation, it connects the Adriatic Sea to the North Italy hinterland and the main cities along river Po and the Fissero Tartaro Canal Bianco Channel, before reaching Milan .
The second function concerns the cabotage, with a strong presence in fields such as ro-ro, ro-pax and project cargo because of the savings in the transportation cycle and the proximity of the wharves to the port entrance, which allows enormous savings in costs and shorter navigational time for the disembarkation and embarkation of the semi-trailers.
The Port of Chioggia has a good consistency of traffic, putting it at the forefront of the north Adriatic area. The commercial diffusion of Chioggia is not limited to a strictly regional area but reaches the markets of North Italy and Central Europe . Chioggia stands both as a goods station able to integrate the functions of its neighbouring ports, as well as an autonomous terminal for operators interested in investing in a modern station.
